In response to the open call to create new landmark gateway public artwork(s) to be installed in a future Scarborough Town Centre master-planned community at the entrance(s) of a central pedestrian mews, Ranbir’s submission - Scarborough Rising - emerged as the winner.
Inspiration
01
Scarborough Rising is the tile of the artwork that takes the form of two elegant hot air balloons, with their uplifting symbolism of freedom and elevation, on either side of the gateway, crafted from mirror-polished stainless steel.
Concept
02
The balloons’ reflective surfaces will allow viewers to see themselves in the artwork, merging their own image with the broader surroundings and sky. This interplay of reflection and light will encourage passersby to feel a connection to the openness of the skies above.
Experience
03
These sculptures will provide a moment for viewers to pause, marvel, and embrace their connection to both the physical and metaphorical openness of their environment, through these sculptures.
"I hope to honour Scarborough’s history, celebrate its present, and envision a future that soars."
